Dr. Beiko received his Honours Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Ottawa in 1992 and 1996, respectively. He subsequently completed residency in core surgery and urology at Queen’s University in 2001. Dr. Beiko then completed a 2-year fellowship in endourology and laparoscopic urology at Western University in London. He was appointed as Assistant Professor to the Department of Urology at Queen’s University in 2003 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2011. Dr. Beiko was granted tenure in 2013, the same year he completed an Executive MBA at the Queen’s School of Business.
Endourologic surgery is Dr. Beiko’s clinical focus and his research focus is on outpatient percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and business-related themes that intersect with healthcare. In addition to his pioneering work and clinical research on outpatient PCNL, Dr. Beiko has leveraged his MBA to build research collaborations with the Queen’s School of Business to study leadership and marketing in healthcare. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
He graduated from the Canadian Leadership Institute for Medical Education (CLIME) in 2013 and was selected to the 2014-2015 American Urological Association Leadership (AUA) Program. Dr. Beiko chairs the Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination Surgery Test Committee and sits on the Urology Examination Board and Test Committee at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
